wzjag9bahpstesuyz995We’re back with round 2 of Sunday Trailer Reviews! I hope you enjoyed round 1 as much as we did.

Let’s get it going.

Arrival

I know, I know. I posted this film last weekend, but that was only a 1-minute teaser. This time, we get the full trailer. If you can’t tell, I am excited for this one.

One stark difference between the trailer and the teaser is the reveal of what the alien looks like, as we see a starfish like creature coming out of nowhere and suctioning itself to the glass barrier between humans and aliens. I do not particularly appreciate the decision to show the alien in the trailer, because it will certainly take away some of the suspense and excitement for this moment when I finally see the film. But, maybe there will be different species of aliens that we’ll get to see. One can only hope.

Atlanta

This trailer actually came out over a week ago, but I had not seen it until this week, so it’s in here. Any questions? Good.

Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, may be one the most hard-working creatives in the entertainment industry today. Actor, stand-up comedian, writer, rapper/singer, now executive producer. Beginning his career on the YouTube channel derrickcomedy, then CollegeHumor, he made it to the big-time while writing for the award winning NBC show, 30 Rock. His breakout role came with his role of Troy on the popular show, Community. Banking on his fame, he then broke into the rap industry with the mixtape, Royalty. He wasn’t taken very seriously, so he decided to prove himself with Camp, and then and the more artistic piece, Because the Internet. Needless to say, he became on of the most successful and popular artists in the entertainment industry. So, to say that I am intrigued by this show would be an understatement.

The show is a semi-autobiographical story about two cousins trying to navigate their way through the Atlanta rap scene. This show appeals to me for a couple different reasons:

  1. Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino
  2. A show about the music industry and breaking into it hasn’t really been done before, especially like this (and please don’t mention Nashville or Empire to me, take your ignorance somewhere else)

Sully

BREAKING NEWS ALERT: Warner Bros. has decided to change the title of their new film, formerly titled Sully, to Flight 2: The One Where the Pilot Isn’t On Drugs. Let’s be honest here for a minute: this is almost the exact same story as Flight, but with less drama and character development (drug-use). The only thing this film has going for it is the fact that it’s based on a true story, and the selling-point of this drama is the investigation that followed, which was not highly publicized by the media. We’ll see what type of investigative drama presents itself with the film, but to say that I’m at all interested in this would be a lie.

Is Tom Hanks trying to continue his recent American hero-character crusade going (Captain Phillips, Bridge of Spies, now Sully)? And what the hell is up with Aaron Eckhart’s mustache? It’s way more distracting than mosquitoes on the 4th of July.
